Ben Miller

FORMER President, Commercial & Industrial Business
Underwriters Laboratories

Underwriters Laboratories’ Commercial & Industrial Business, the company’s largest division, first announced its Cybersecurity Assurance Program in 2016 — and two years later it’s beginning to catch on. Under Miller’s leadership, the program, which aims to minimize cyber threats by creating standardized, testable criteria for assessing software vulnerabilities, is now expanding to include a seal of approval, so to speak, for software companies that meet UL’s standards. In February, Miller’s toiling showed signs of paying off when Eaton became the first to earn UL’s seal of approval. “We seek to help manufacturers, their customers and other stakeholders mitigate security risks through science-based assessment and evaluation,” Miller told the trade publication Security Sales & Integration. “Our collaboration with experts at Eaton is providing some of the crucial inputs to developing the technical expertise for new standards, and it’s helping advance UL’s efforts to protect our world’s critical infrastructure against ever-increasing cybersecurity threats.”
