Bob Melk

Chief Commercial Officer

Melk’s appointment in February as chief commercial officer of Monster, the 20-year-old global employment website, came just as technology behemoths like Google and Microsoft sought to take a bite out of the lucrative online job-search market. Indeed, with an estimated 41 million people in search of employment annually, the U.S. recruitment market in recent years has skyrocketed to become a $200 billion cash cow, and through bleeding-edge artificial intelligence technology, barbarians at the gate, like Google, may give the old guard, including Monster and CareerBuilder, a run for their money. Nonetheless, since departing Dice, a tech recruiting company, Melk has focused on enhancing Monster’s commercial strategy and strengthening its sales team. He leads the North American business segments, customer service, and sales effectiveness and optimization teams. “These are challenging times for the recruiting industry,” Melk acknowledged in May shortly after his appointment at the Massachusetts-based company. “With a tighter job market than we’ve seen in recent years — or even decades — some industries are facing a surplus of talent while others are experiencing a shortage. Our customers have the important responsibility to help our economy thrive by finding and placing the best candidate in the right role. We see it as our responsibility as their partners to empower them.”
