John Byrne

President, North America Commercial Sales
Dell EMC

Before Dell’s blockbuster $67 billion acquisition of EMC in 2016, the Texas-based technology company’s channel sales amounted to a paltry 33 percent of commercial business. But with the merger, Byrne was promoted as president of the channel division, and revenue through partners poured in overnight, adding up to about 55 percent of the company’s total sales volume in 2017. Now, as president of North America Commercial Sales, the hard-charging Scot lately has focused his energy on growing Dell’s storage sales, which, after a stumble, sped past Hewlett Packard during the first quarter of 2018 to become the market leader. “We will aggressively attack the market, gain share, drive improvements and attack services like crazy across all routes to markets,” Byrne told CRN, an information technology news site, earlier this summer. “We’re going to attack the living daylights out of all things storage from hyper-converged to arrays. Expect all those foundational things we built in the channel organizations to be a ‘rinse and repeat’ into the North America organization. It is the biggest region within our partner community.”
