Jud Linville

CEO, Citi Global Cards and Consumer Services

Earlier this year, Citigroup had nothing but “thank you” to say to Linville following his aggressive turnaround as chief executive of Citigroup’s division Citi Cards, which, in 2009, the banking behemoth all but gave up on in the heat of the financial crisis. Under his leadership, however, the unit bounced back by undercutting American Express and taking over Costco Wholesale Corp.’s card business. He also revived the banking institution’s points program ThankYou and pumped air into its travel rewards card Citi Prestige by introducing a whopping 75,000-point sign-up bonus. “We are always in the market looking at different kinds of distribution and loyalty programs,” he told the Points Guy in 2017. “I’d say we are very focused on brands that fit with us — because not everyone does. The other is that we look for companies that have obsessed customers — that have a high degree of engagement either because of the experience that that partner provides or their loyalty program. Because it also allows us to use different distributions, where people can gain access to our products in different kinds of ways.”
