Layne Levine

President, Enterprise & Wholesale
Windstream Enterprise

Since his appointment in July 2017 as president of Windstream Holdings’ Enterprise & Wholesale business, Levine could hardly be accused of moving slowly. Four months after taking the helm, and on the tails of the voice- and data-network provider’s $1.1 billion merger with EarthLink, Levine abruptly replaced longtime EarthLink executive Olen Scott as channel chief with Curt Allen, the former president of channels for Sandler Partners. Then under Levine’s leadership, the company pivoted again in February of this year with a sweetheart brand repositioning — on Valentine’s Day, no less — of its Enterprise and Wholesale divisions, an overhaul of those businesses’ network, technology, acquisitions and products. Finally, in March, the Little Rock, Arkansas–based company came out with blockbuster news that it had acquired New York–based competitive local exchange carrier MassComm for $37.5 million. “This is not the Windstream of the past,” Levine told networking trade outlet Light Reading. “This is a brand-new Windstream, a brand-new way to market and way to think about the type of products, technology and people that we bring together and help our clients move into the new world of SD-WAN and cloud.”
