Aviation, health care, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, power generation — you name it, GE Digital is selling it. As vice president of Commercial Operations & Strategy, Barbosa helps manage as many as 200 sales professionals in a drive to market the San Ramon, California–headquartered subsidiary’s cloud-based software and field service platforms. While the business has pivoted to solutions over the past year, its Predix Platform for developing industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications has remained hugely popular: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has adapted it to collect data in real time at its United Arab Emirates power plants. The market for third-party IoT platforms is expected to grow by 32 percent from $1.8 billion in 2017 to $7 billion in 2022, and Barbosa — the trilingual graduate of Boston College’s Carroll School of Management — intends to be a part of that growth. Perhaps the Brooklyn resident’s proudest achievement, however, is her experience as a student of GE’s 110-year-old immersive training program — internally dubbed the Green Beret program — in which only 2 percent of the 200- to 300-person class make the cut each year. Barbosa is one of those rising stars who made the grade.
