VP, Surface Mining & Technology
Caterpillar has firmly established itself as a leader in construction equipment, but the company also makes specialty products for specific industries, and mining is among the biggest of them. It’s Savage’s job as vice president of surface mining and technology to ensure that Caterpillar is the first name that mining companies consider when sourcing the tools and technologies they need to extract the valuable minerals they seek. She joined Caterpillar in 2014 and ascended to her current role after performing well as the company’s chief technology officer and vice president of the innovation and technology development division, where she oversaw 11,000 employees and an annual cost structure of $6 billion, part of the behemoth’s massive research and development efforts. Prior to Caterpillar, Savage worked for a variety of other heavy-industry companies and served as a military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army.
