Asonye leads a team of over 100 sales and services professionals at Mixpanel, a product analytics provider that counts Twitter, Uber, and Expedia among its clients. And somehow he still finds time for hobbies: He is an angel investor and startup advisor, as well as a certified pilot. Asonye’s first job, doing statistical analysis for the Cleveland Indians, was a formative one. “My first job out of college, three months in, I’m running around spraying champagne on people as our team won the AL Division Series,” he said on Kleiner Perkins’ Go-to-Market Grit podcast. “I think you just don’t have those types of career opps very often. I learned so much about organization building. I worked with such a talented team … a theme in my career has just been to follow really good people, because you’re going to learn a lot by being surrounded by them. Since that first job, Asonye spent two years at Bain & Company, advising B2B software companies and then moved on to Stripe, where he was instrumental in scaling the organization’s sales team.
